Some hundred medical history museums in Europe belong to the Association Européenne des Musées d'Histoire des Sciences Médicales, founded in France in 1983. Every other year a conference is held, the proceedings of which are published.
The first Scandinavian congress was arranged in Göteborg in 1996. Other biennal congresses have been held in Lyon, London, Ingolstadt, Pavia, Barcelona, Leiden, Zürich, Leeds, Oporto, Paris, Vienna, Riga and Edinburgh.
