The Department of Plastic Surgery is a part of one of Northern Europe’s largest hospitals – the Sahlgrenska University hospital in Gothenburg. The department serves patients from all over Sweden and some from abroad.
The department carries out all kinds of reconstructive plastic surgery, except large burn injuries requiring intensive care. We specialize in craniofacial surgery, gender reassignment surgery, microvascular surgery, advanced breast reconstructions, and cleft, lip, and palate (CLP) surgery. A large part of our assignment is reconstructions of congenital malformations in children.
In total, 22 specialists work in the department. Besides the clinical work, everyone is deeply committed to research (3 professors, 4 associate professors, 4 post-doctoral researchers, and 8 PhD-students. The department produced 74 scientific publications between 2017–2019. Also, the education of medical students, interns, and residents is an integrated part of daily work.
