Planned care for UK citizens after Brexit

Are you a UK Citizen interested in planned care at Sahlgrenska University Hospital or another hospital in Region Västra Götaland?  This is what you need to know. 

UK citizens are welcome to apply for planned care at the hospitals in the region before and after the Brexit transition period. 

As from 1 January 2021, we will offer planned care for UK citizens in accordance with our international price list. The S2 form will no longer be applicable. 

If you are visiting Sweden after 31 December 2020 and the need for care arises, it is important that you have a travel insurance as the EHIC card will no longer be valid for UK Citizens. 

Both the S2 route and the EHIC card will remain open for the following groups: 

  • UK State Pensioners living in the EU before 31 December 2020 
  • ”Frontier workers” (someone who works in one state and lives in another) before 31 December 2020, for as long as you continue to be a frontier worker in the host state 
  • an EU national living in the UK before 31 December 2020
