The NECT-education/treatment is an intervention meant for persons with a severe psychiatric disease. The education aims at teaching the patient how to recognize and cope with self-stigma.

Self-stigma may for instance mean that a person holds false beliefs about psychiatric illness in general and further takes these beliefs to be true in her or his own case. For instance it could be the view that the condition of someone with schizophrenia cannot be improved, that such a person is unable to work or experience life as meaningful.

The course takes the form of a study circle. Each study group consists of four to seven participants and two group-leaders. The course runs for approximately twenty sessions. There is a one hour session each week.
