Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Region Västra Götaland process personal data for many different purposes across several departments. We have a major responsibility to protect your privacy and ensure that your personal data is handled securely and correctly.

Within healthcare, we process health information, which is considered sensitive personal data. We handle it in accordance with specific regulations and with a particularly high level of security. We do this to provide you with safe and secure care.
Each committee and board within Region Västra Götaland is responsible for how personal data is processed within its area of responsibility. Below, you can read more about how we process personal data, what personal data is, when we need to process your data, and what rights you have.

Processing is a broad term that covers anything that can be done with personal data. For example, collecting, recording, storing or disclosing personal data.

We only collect the information we need to carry out our work. The information is needed to:

- How we protect your personal data
- We take steps to ensure that your personal data is secure. We use a range of methods to protect it from being stolen, lost or destroyed.

- Correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data
- Lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection
