Henrik Zetterberg is one of the world’s leading researchers in neurodegenerative diseases and biomarkers, with a particular focus on Alzheimer’s disease and other disorders affecting the brain.

As a Senior Consultant Neurologist and Professor at Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the University of Gothenburg, he has played a pivotal role in advancing the understanding, diagnosis and monitoring of neurological diseases.

At Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Zetterberg leads groundbreaking research into biomarkers that can detect signs of neurodegeneration years before symptoms appear. His work has contributed to the development of blood- and cerebrospinal fluid-based tests that are transforming clinical practice worldwide, making earlier and more accurate diagnosis of conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease possible. These innovations are helping clinicians identify patients sooner, monitor disease progression and evaluate the effectiveness of new treatments.

Henrik Zetterberg’s research combines clinical expertise with laboratory science and extensive international collaboration. He has published more than three thousand scientific papers and is among the most highly cited researchers in his field. Through his work at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, he has helped establish Gothenburg as a global centre for neuroscience research and precision diagnostics, contributing to improved care and new hope for patients with neurodegenerative diseases worldwide.

"Curiosity is what drives me. I am deeply committed to helping patients receive accurate diagnoses and effective treatment, and I want to play a part in improving care for people affected by neurodegenerative diseases that lead to dementia.", says Zetterberg.
