AstraZeneca
The strategic partnership between Sahlgrenska University Hospital and AstraZeneca is aimed at strengthening the life sciences sector in western Sweden and across the country. The collaboration will support the development of innovative medicines and help make new treatments available to patients more quickly.
Initially, the partnership will focus on three key areas: staff exchange, support for clinical trials, and leadership education.
AstraZeneca operates one of its global strategic research centres in Gothenburg and aims to develop it into one of the world’s leading research and development facilities. The company sees significant value in establishing a closer partnership with Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
Staff exchange
The partnership will create opportunities for employees to spend part of their time working within the partner organisation. This exchange is expected to facilitate knowledge sharing, provide greater insight into each organisation’s challenges and priorities, and enhance the attractiveness of western Sweden as a destination for highly skilled professionals.
Support for clinical trials
The partners aim to facilitate patient recruitment for clinical studies across the entire region. Increasing the number of clinical trials will support the development of innovative medicines and help bring new treatments to patients more rapidly.
The Västra Götaland Region, with Sahlgrenska University Hospital at its centre, is recognised as a national leader in clinical research according to the Swedish Research Council’s annual evaluation. The region benefits from a strong research infrastructure and a long tradition of collaboration between healthcare, academia and industry, providing a solid foundation for further development.
Leadership education
The partners also plan to jointly offer an academic leadership programme for senior managers and leaders across the life sciences sector who are seeking to develop their skills and prepare for future leadership roles.
The programme aims to strengthen leadership competence within advanced management positions and enhance the attractiveness and competitiveness of the life sciences sector. Ultimately, the initiative is intended to support innovation and improve outcomes for patients.
