Pediatric Oncology

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, both highly specialised care and a sense of security are essential. At Queen Silvia Children’s Hospital, families are supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team where advanced treatment and compassionate care go hand in hand.

Children

Our Queen Silvia Children’s Hospital, part of Sahlgrenska University Hospital, provides comprehensive paediatric care. It is Sweden’s largest paediatric hospital, with multiple awards and accreditations.

The hospital is one of Sweden’s leading centres for paediatric cancer care and the team is part of Sahlgrenska Comprehensive Cancer Center. Here, clinical excellence is combined with pioneering research to provide every child with the best possible treatment.

We work with precision medicine, tailoring treatment to each child’s unique circumstances. Genetic analyses and advanced diagnostics enable us to gain a deeper understanding of the disease and select more targeted therapies. We also offer advanced therapies, including cell and gene therapies (ATMPs), for children with complex and rare conditions.

Through our paediatric clinical trials unit, clinical studies are an integral part of care. This gives patients early access to new treatments while helping us advance the future of paediatric cancer care in close collaboration with international networks.

For families, care should be clear, coordinated and easy to navigate. We are here every step of the way – from diagnosis and assessment to treatment and follow-up.

When families feel safe and supported, the best possible conditions for recovery can be created.

The collaboration that saved Eldur’s life

International collborations give patients access to treatments not available in their home countries. For Eldur Elí Bjarkason from Iceland, this meant a life-saving liver transplant.
