Pathology Department – at a glance
Clinical Pathology at Sahlgrenska University Hospital is Sweden's largest pathology services, operating through three laboratories across Western Sweden. The department processes approximately 100,000 tissue and cytology samples annually and provides diagnostics across most subspecialised organ areas.
The department employs around 270 professionals, including approximately 50 specialist pathologists and more than 10 pathology residents. The largest site is located at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, with approximately 190 employees.
With expertise spanning more than 20 pathology subspecialties, the department offers a broad range of diagnostic services, including histopathology, cytopathology, molecular pathology, transplant pathology and autopsy pathology.
The department is also actively engaged in high-quality research closely integrated with clinical practice, contributing to the continued advancement of pathology and diagnostic medicine.
Pathologist profiles currently in demand
Sahlgrenska University Hospital welcomes applications from specialist pathologists trained within the European Union or from specialists with a minimum of three years' experience practising within an EU country.
